Day 188 – Costume makes the clown

This photo has a bit of a strange story attached to it! I was in Wollongong today for a football match and was attending a trivia night later that night, also in the ‘gong. Myself and one of my friends decided to pass the time by going down to the beach. Except we didn’t have a clue where the beach was, and instead of asking we just kept driving, in the wrong direction! After a while we passed a circus and I made some random comment about having wanted to take photos of a clown for my college assignment. So we said we’d go in and see if there were any clowns around!

It turns out a show had just ended so I asked a guy on a stall could I take some pictures, he said they’d probably be busy but to go inside the tent and ask someone there. Then we met a lady who said they were busy putting up cages and pointed to one of them. So we went over, said hello and got a few pictures while my friend Chompy talked to them about their show in Parramatta.

I think this is partily the reason I like photography so much, it finds you in random places with random people, situations that can give you a kind of truth about people or places you might’ve had a totally different opinion about before. For example even thinking of the kind of people involved in a circus brings up a certain type of stereotype. These guys just seemed like your average guy on the street. What’s the difference between the guy on the left and the figure depicted in the drawing on the wall? Not much… Everything… 30 minutes…?

Quote of the day:

But the fact that some geniuses were laughed at does not imply that all who are laughed at are geniuses. They laughed at Columbus, they laughed at Fulton, they laughed at the Wright brothers. But they also laughed at Bozo the Clown – Dr. Carl Sagan
