Day 64 – Back in the Race

Well as you may, or may not, be able to see from the picture I went to a Jazz and Blues night last night to take some pictures for my college assignment. The trip didn’t go too well initially, I went to the street the club was supposed to be on and kept walking down for about 15 mins before I realised I was getting further and further away from any kind of civilisation and that I was walking on a dark street in Kings Cross with a lot of camera equipment! I went back up the street still no sign of the place until I came to begining of it only to realise the venue was actually the very first building on the flippin street! If it was a dog it would’ve bit me!

Anyway went in and hadn’t realised it was actually an ‘open-mic’ jazz night, as well as ‘open-instrument’ it seemed, in what actually looked like a restuarant! Not very conducive to ‘atmospheric’ photo taking but I did my best (with all the customers/performers wondering what the hell I was doing probably!). In the end it turned out to be a very good night, the musicians were excellent and the singers random, brilliant and interesting respectively! If anyone wants to go its El Rocco @ Bar Me on Brougham St (at the start of the street not the end!) in Kings Cross every forthnight.

I think I’ll post a jazz song lyrics for today!

That’s Life – Frank Sinatra
That’s life, that’s what all the people say.
You’re riding high in April,
Shot down in May
But I know I’m gonna change that tune,
When I’m back on top, back on top in June.

I said that’s life, and as funny as it may seem
Some people get their kicks,
Stompin’ on a dream
But I don’t let it, let it get me down,
‘Cause this fine ol’ world it keeps spinning around

I’ve been a puppet, a pauper, a pirate,
A poet, a pawn and a king.
I’ve been up and down and over and out
And I know one thing:
Each time I find myself, flat on my face,
I pick myself up and get back in the race.

That’s life
I tell ya, I can’t deny it,
I thought of quitting baby,
But my heart just ain’t gonna buy it.
And if I didn’t think it was worth one single try,
I’d jump right on a big bird and then I’d fly

I’ve been a puppet, a pauper, a pirate,
A poet, a pawn and a king.
I’ve been up and down and over and out
And I know one thing:
Each time I find myself laying flat on my face,
I just pick myself up and get back in the race

That’s life
That’s life and I can’t deny it
Many times I thought of cutting out
But my heart won’t buy it
But if there’s nothing shakin’ come this here july
I’m gonna roll myself up in a big ball and die
My, My
