Day 60 – April Fools

Today was a weird day so how appropriate that the picture, taken before the madness, was of a weird car parked on our street. A black, old styled motor with rather opposing colourful interior decoration! Whether that was its intention or not it stands out, giving the residents of Erskineville a timely break from the modern monotony that exists in just walking down a street.

I bet if you try to think back to the last street you walked down would you remember 10 of the cars you passed? 5? None? Our brains can’t take in everything so we filter everything we see and most of it goes into a ‘forgettable’ category. Even thinking about that same street, the one I walk almost every day to get to the shops of Erskineville, there is so little I remember about the houses, the cars, and, of course, the people as they are rarely seen outside their houses these days.

I guess in essence it is a lesson on how to stand out or blend in with the crowd. But when we remember what we remember and can analyse the how and the why, we can understand how our own minds work and how to use that to better our lives.

Quote of the day: “Each one of you has something no one else has, or has ever had: your fingerprints, your brain, your heart. Be an individual. Be unique. Stand out. Make noise. Make someone notice. That’s the power of individuals.” – Jon Bon Jovi
