Day 27 – Mardi Gras!

So the Sydney Mardi Gras parade was on today and as I’m a bit tired (as you would if you had a few beers and then spent about 6 hours navigating from milk crate to milk crate amongst a 10-person deep crowd to take one of about 400 photos – i filled 2 memory cards!) I’m going to quote some poems instead of writing much today! It was a great event with the theme of the parade being History of the World, obviously encompassing gay history and the fact that when the first march was held in 1978 homosexuality was illegal in New South Wales and all the marchers were arrested.

It was a fantastic night and the highlight for me was just being there seeing the smiles on everyones faces, absolutely everyone I met was smiling! A party for half a million people as only Sydney can do! Anyway some poetry!

Sonnet 116 – William Shakesphere

Let me not to the marriage of true minds
Admit impediments. Love is not love
Which alters when it alteration finds,
Or bends with the remover to remove:
O no! it is an ever-fixed mark
That looks on tempests and is never shaken;
It is the star to every wandering bark,
Whose worth’s unknown, although his height be taken.
Love’s not Time’s fool, though rosy lips and cheeks
Within his bending sickle’s compass come:
Love alters not with his brief hours and weeks,
But bears it out even to the edge of doom.
If this be error and upon me proved,
I never writ, nor no man ever loved.

Ode to a Grecian Urn – John Keats

O Attic shape!  Fair attitude! with brede
Of marble men and maidens overwrought,
With forest branches and the trodden weed;
Thou, silent form, dost tease us out of thought
As doth eternity: Cold Pastoral!
When old age shall this generation waste,
Thou shalt remain, in midst of other woe
Than ours, a friend to man, to whom thou say’st,
“Beauty is truth, truth beauty,” – that is all
Ye know on earth, and all ye need to know.

Lastly I have all the 365 pictures on flickr in bigger size so its a bit easier to see photo montages like above! The address is
